3 Must-Have Parenting Books To Get

Must-Have Parenting Books to Get

I’ll be the first to put my hands up and admit that motherhood is an on the job training experience for me. On a daily basis, I’m learning as and I tackle new tasks and add additional duties to my job description. I have to be open to learning and seek knowledge all of the time. One of the ways that I seek knowledge is through reading books. Last year, I focused on reading parenting books that would help me to raise wholesome happy children.  I wanted to share three that I found very worthwhile to read. I used them to tweak my parenting style and they made me think about my approach and how I can improve for my children. How to talk so Little Kids Will Listen: A Survival Guide to Life with Children Ages 2-7

This book is a follow-up to How to Talk so Kids Will Listen and Listen so Kids Will Talk. How to talk So Little Kids Will Listen shares some practical methods for talking to preschoolers. I loved that there were lots of examples of what to say to get through common challenges we face parenting 2-year-olds to 7-year-olds. This is a tough age as kids are given a little more independence, start school, and develop emotionally. I found this book really helpful when dealing with my then 4-year-old son and I’m looking forward to using the tools that I learned when my 1-year-old gets to that age group next year.

13 Things Mentally Strong Parents Do

Whew! This is a book I discovered at the library and fell in love with. I remember sharing this book’s table of contents in my Instagram stories and a few moms expressing interest in reading it too. I found that this book helped me to identify unhealthy strategies and to unlearn toxic parenting methods. The chapters I found most eye-opening were on focusing on helping my children work through tough emotions like sadness, embarrassment, anger instead of cheering them up and working through it for them.

The Whole Brain Child

The Whole Brain Child

I got this book from a secret Santa in a Facebook group. It was on my wishlist and I’m so grateful I received it because I was able to learn a great deal from this book. Most of us don’t understand how the brain works which makes it hard for us to sometimes understand our children’s behavior. This book helped me to understand my children’s brains and shared smart ways to parent with their developing brain in mind. This book really changed the way that I approached parenting and I think it’s a good read for all parents.
